OFFICE PARTITIONS
A wide range from luxuriously veneered wall panelling to practical, every day, easily moved aluminium framed partitions.
Office partitions are generally broken down into five main types.

Aluminium framed, demountable partitions.
The most used partition for general offices. Fixed at floor and ceiling but can be mounted short of ceiling height. They can be all solid, part glazed or fully glazed. Sound reduction for solid partitions is in the area of 28db to about 38db, depending on the weight of the panels used. This type of partition is practical for small offices where sound insulation is not an important issue but some privacy is required. Electrical wiring can be run through the frame and light switches are a standard feature in door frames.

Aluminium and steel framed acoustic partitions.
Much heavier construction with single or double skin panelling. Sound insulation depends a great deal on two important factors, weight and air-tightness. These partitions are carefully constructed for this reason and utilize various methods for avoiding air transmitted sound, for instance, around the edges of panels and at wall abutments. Such partitions have to extend to the structural ceiling, meaning work is often required above the partition and any suspended ceiling. Sound reduction can be as high as 55db. (The glazed example here is 40db)
Purpose built, decorative partitions.
Just about anything goes in this area of office partitions. Nonetheless, they are frequently built on aluminium or metal frames utilizing heavy panels in the core and hung panels as cladding. These can, of course, be decorated with veneers, fabric or be prefinished acoustic panels. Such partitions are mostly used for executive suites and reception areas. Carefully chosen, sound reduction as high as 60db is available.
Sliding partitions
This type of partition can be mounted on a floor track or hung from the ceiling. Either can be of high sound reduction and are available in numerous decorative finishes.
Acoustic screens.
The basic acoustic screen. Simple, flat or curved, with vinyl covering.
More sophisticated come with adjustable feet and upholstered body.
Heavier screens, less portable, but not fixed down, incorporating storage utilities and shelving.
Acoustic screens are highly valued in open plan environments and, as they do not normally incorporate electrical wiring, are usually set up inside an electrical ducting network with work-station terminals.

REGULATIONS
Fire regulations and Means of Escape regulations must be adhered to whichever partition is used. Only compliable materials are permitted and routes to a fire protected area must remain below maximum distances.
